Product Description

Betty Suarez is smart sweet and hard working. They only problem is that she's not thin and beautiful like all her co-workers at Mode the high-fashion magazine where she works. The only reason the publisher hired her to be his son's secretary is that he thought Betty was someone who Daniel would never sleep with. Betty's hard work and determination earns Daniel's respect as she helps him find his way through the shark infested waters of the fashion industry.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 786936754230 Manufacturer No: 05636800

The second season of Ugly Betty finds the titular heroine juggling the affections of two men, embroiled in ongoing chaos at work, and dealing with some serious drama on the home front. And yes, this truly is a comedy. First there's the aftermath of Santos' death at the end of last season just as he and Betty's sister Hilda (Ana Ortiz) were reconciling. Hilda deals with her grief by befriending a group of senior citizens, while her son (Mark Indelicato) turns from Broadway-loving good boy to leather-wearing bad boy almost overnight. As for Betty (America Ferrera), she finds herself living out every girl's fantasy: being adored and pursued by two men: adorable accountant Henry (Christopher Gorham) and sexy sandwich vendor Gio (Freddy Rodriguez). Of course, both men come with their fair share of baggage. In Henry's case, it's a pregnant ex-girlfriend who wants to lose her "ex" status. There's also an illegal immigration subplot involving Betty's dad Ignacio (Tony Plano), the reveal of who's the mother of sassy mean girl Amanda (Becki Newton), and vapid Marc's (Michael Urie) reticence to fall for a nice but schlubby photographer with whom he is embarrassed to be seen. The power play between Betty's boss Daniel (Eric Mabius), his transsexual sister Alexis Meade (Rebecca Romijn) and their colleague Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) is ongoing, with loyalties being tested ad nauseum. Wilhelmina goes to extreme measures to ensure that she will reign supreme at the office. And Daniel finds himself falling for a woman who is related to one of his enemies. That's a lot of storyline to cram into 18 episodes (which originally aired during the 2007-2008 television season) but the directors and writers do a good job of keeping storylines flowing. This season's guest stars include Victoria Beckham, Gabrielle Union, Eddie Cibrian, and Williams' ex-husband Rick Fox. John Cho--as the hilariously smarmy accountant Kenny―is a scene stealer who gets in some of the best lines of the season in the form of a mini rap: "She's Alexis, big as Texas. She knows what it's like to be both sexes." The season ends with a cliffhanger where Betty needs to make a choice that will define who she is and, just as importantly, who she wants to become. --Jae-Ha Kim

Still one of the best shows on TV  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

The end of Ugly Betty - The Complete First Season left everything hanging in the air as Henry left for Tucson, Daniel and Alexis got into a possibly-fatal car crash after Alexi paid a hitman to take out Bradford, Wilhelmina and Bradford got engaged, Santos was shot, Claire escaped from jail, Ignacio got sent back to Mexico, and Amanda found out who her mother really was.

The first part of season two wrapped up the loose ends of season one, but introduced new plot elements, some of them just as good as those in season two's preceding season. Betty, Hilda, Daniel and Mark all found themselves with new love interests. Wilhelmina maintained her status as comedic villain extraordinaire as she continued her plan(s) to take over Meade Publications. It's a little over-the-top, but it's all in good fun, and one of the great things about this show is that all the actors seem to have such great chemistry with one another. The only story arc that I had problems with was the Amanda paternity thing--it was very "out there," perhaps not in a good way. But I liked it in that it was handled in the way that Amanda would handle such things--completely clueless, as usual. And as usual, the dialogue is wonderfully witty, and Wilhelmina, Mark, and Amanda remain my favorite characters. The wonderful thing about this season was that it didn't seem to be affected much by the writers' strike.

This five-disc set includes all eighteen episodes of season two, plus the following bonus features: "On Set with the Besties" (Michael Urie and Becki Newton take the viewer on a tour of Mode, with "popup" fun facts about the show's production), "The Suarez Tour" (Mark Indelicato and Tony Plana take the viewer on a tour of the Suarez home), "Wilhelmina Slater: Love to Hate Her" (a tribute to the character), three telenovellas (Las Passiones de Telenovelas, Los Pecados del Corazon, and Assesinato por Muerte), "I Heart Betty" (a tribute to the character), Betty Bloops, and Deleted Scenes. The booklet insert includes an NYC subway map with the locations of the Mode office, the Suarez home, and other important Ugly Betty locations pinpointed on it.

Can I give it 6 Stars?  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

A one of a kind series, Ugly Betty, brings to the screen the parallel stories of a group of people working at a New York City women's fashion magazine.
Season 2 adds a lot more depth and character development making it even better (if that could ever be possible) than the first season.
America Ferrera, Eric Mabius, Rebecca Romijn, Vanessa Williams, Michael Urie, Becki Newton, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Mark Indelicato, Ashley Jensen, Christopher Gorham, Judith Light, and the rest of this EXTRAORDINARY cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least. All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, the series is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few laughs, not to mention a few tears. The plot has elements of both comedy and drama making it rather difficult to label it as one or the other; it is actually a bit of both. Ugly Betty does a great job of describing people's different personalities, fears, and the problems they face. It is all about human relations, hope, and second chances, but most importantly about trust, love, and inner strength.
The acting, the setting, the plot (and subplots), the dialogues, and the music, which are just wonderful! It is indeed a rarity when an amazing series such as this comes by.
In short, Ugly Betty is a series definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection (if you haven't done so already)! KEEP'EM COMING!!!

Good Stuff  (Rating: 4 out of 5)

Ugly Betty is a funny, witty kind of comedy. It is satirical and wonderful.

Excellent Show and DVD!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

I didn't get to watch all the discs on the DVD itself but I saw all the episodes of Ugly Betty of season two and have to to say, it is excellent. Right now I'm currently watching season three of Ugly Betty on T.V. That's cool so far too! I have to say things are getting pretty juicy and pretty funny. I can't wait 'til that comes out on DVD too. Hey, even my grandma thinks it's funny. For all of you who love Ugly Betty, buy this DVD along with season one. It's awesome!
