Outstanding Print Quality
Using dye-sublimation technology, the DPP-FP95 produces prints that exhibit continuous color tone at a resolution of 300 x 300 DPI and a color resolution of 256 levels x 3 colors. Featuring SuperCoat 2 laminate, prints are less susceptible to fading thanks to a durable coating that protects photos from water, heat and fingerprints. The printer produces 4x6-inch prints in about 45 seconds. The printer offers several print modes including ID Photo, layout print, borderless print, border print, and date print.
Giant 3.6-inch Screen for Instant Touch-ups Without a Computer
The DPP-FP95 printer features a 3.6-inch adjustable LCD screen and an intuitive interface that makes it a breeze to create keepsakes and scrapbooks. Scrapbook templates offers different photo layouts and backgrounds, letting you simply pick what you want while the printer does all the work.
An auto touch-up feature can quickly correct common photo problems and lets you easily correct exposure, sharpen focus, remove red-eye, and smooth skin tones. Additionally, the printer features a variety of filters to add different artistic effects to the image. For example, the partial color filter lets you remove color from a photo except in the center; a paint filter makes the image look like it were printed on a canvas; the cross filter makes lights look more dramatic; monochrome and sepia filters creates an artistic and dramatic look; and the fish-eye filter allows you to add a new perspective to portrait and landscape photos. You can also enlarge, crop, and rotate all images.
All this can be done without a computer, as the printer has a built-in memory card reader that is compatible with Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO Duo, SD Memory Card, and xD-Picture Card. Most PictBridge-enabled cameras can also be connected directly to the printer. The printer natively supports JPEG, TIFF, and BMP file formats. Of course, you can also connect the printer to a computer via USB and print out photos that have been edited and manipulated on your computer. In addition, printer has an HDMI output that allows you to preview and share high-resolution photos before you print.
Optimized Performance With Compatible Sony Cameras
Thanks to the BIONZ digital imaging processor, the printer can access data in images created from Sony digital cameras and use this data to automatically adjust settings for the best print based on the settings used when the photo was taken.
The Sony DPP-FP95 photo printer is backed by a 1-year warranty.
Pictures are way over-saturated and look fake (Rating: 2 out of 5) I had seen some test prints from this printer and thought the colors looked beautiful, so I bought one. Boy was I disappointed. While the colors were bright and vivid, much more so than I've seen with Costco prints, the photos were way oversaturated, making everything look fake. I played with the settings and was able to improve it somewhat, there's a setting called autofine print5 which was turned on (set to 'photo'). I turned it off and the pictures looked much better, but they still paled in comparison to what I could get with the cheapest Costco print. I don't know if it's the printer's fault or the software. I think with the dye sublimation technology, the possibility of getting prints of equal or better quality than store bought prints is there, but for whatever reason it just can't do it yet.
I think slowly the medium by which people view photos is switching to digital only, so the need for high quality prints to put in photo albums is diminishing. I bought this printer hoping to get something near the quality that I can get in the store. That way I could play with the brightness and colors and get instant feedback. However, this printer just couldn't do it. Quite disappointing.
One last thing, you can't print directly from a Mac with this printer. This seems preposterous to me, that in this day and age people are making printers that are not Mac compatible. It's simple enough to transfer photos to a memory card, but still, why should I have to do that in 2008?
FYI (Rating: 4 out of 5) Just beware, printer does NOT come with paper or ribbon. Don't be surprised when you open the box and find you have to make another trip to the store before you can start printing. Bad move, Sony. Shame on you!!!
Very good printer (Rating: 4 out of 5) The only limitation I found with this printer is that if you want to have a larger copy of your picture you will have to take elsewhere.
Otherwise, if you are happy with the top size printing of this machine then this will be excellent for you. The quality of the prited photograph is great.
