Customer Reviews

Looks good, but...  (Rating: 2 out of 5)

I bought this frame 13 months ago. When it worked it looked great. It gets one star for the display quality and another for the overall styling.

The user interface is OK. I didn't need the manual to operate it. However, it is very intolerant of any unsupported file formats. Instead of showing an error message, it just hangs and usually needs a manual reset to get it going again. This is not a big deal I suppose, but it would be nice to not have to parse through all the pictures for stray thumbs.db files that were added by Windows.

The display had been off (but still plugged in) for over a month. When we turned it on again, it wouldn't come on. I talked to a nice guy at Philips customer support, but he couldn't help me because the unit is 13 months old now. I can't argue, because I know it's a 1 year warranty, but it sure is frustrating. I paid half again the current advertised price for this unit and now I either throw it away or experiment. BUMMER!!

Digital picture frame  (Rating: 4 out of 5)

This digital picture frame is very user friendly. I gave it as a gift and it was very easy for my wife to program this product. The picture clarity is great and vivid.

buy it while you can  (Rating: 4 out of 5)

I bought this model (7FF2FPA), then the newer, cheaper 7FF2FPAs model. I found this older model to have a much higher picture quality. I'd recommend spending the extra money on this older model rather than the new model. Oh, also, the stand is much nicer as well. It's a heavy chrome peg, and the newer one has a cheap black plastic one.

Looks Great before you turn it on  (Rating: 2 out of 5)

If you turn it off, you have to wait more than 10 minutes to be able to turn it on again. The color is good, however very limited tone level. I'll find color contour in sky, human skin. And no bettery to hold the timer! and all your setup data!

Great picture quality, good features  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

I had very specific features I wanted in a digital picture frame. This model delivers in nearly all of them. Here is a breakdown of the good and the bad:

1) Picture quality is outstanding. Much better than I expected. This frame really brings pictures to life in a way that traditional prints can't.
2) There is no product logo blaring on the front of the frame. All you see is the dark frame and the picture itself.
3) There are several slideshow settings, including many different transitions and many different lengths of time for each picture.
4) Buttons, which are located on the back of the unit, take some time to learn. But once you do it is very easy to operate. Somebody not good with electronics, like an elderly person, may have a little trouble, however.

The drawbacks I've encountered are relatively minor:

1) No remote control or wireless capability. Since this is a gift for my elderly parents, this wasn't a concern for me.
2) No option for having multiple albums from which to choose. Or if there is, I haven't found out how to set it up yet. All photos are lumped together on my memory card.
3) Compact Flash disk is VERY hard to remove. An elderly person may need pliers to remove it, in fact. Since I only use memory cards, I have not tested the PC connection method.
4) The frame will crop photos if they are not resized. Most digital pictures are not taken in the widescreen format, so the top and bottom will be slightly cropped. The best way to ensure this doesn't happen is to resize horizontal photos to 720 px wide and vertical photos to 480 px tall. This will ensure photos will be displayed at maximum quality at the original dimension.
5) The stand on the back comes off VERY easily. I highly recommend taping it to the frame so that it does not come off. I made the mistake of picking it up by the stand, and when it came off the frame fell onto the table and scratched.

Several reviews state that settings are erased if the unit is unplugged. The clock settings do get erased if unplugged, but the slideshow settings remain intact.

Bottom line: Excellent picture quality, solid slideshow features, no wireless and no remote, and watch out for the stand.
