From Amazon.co.ukHere's Dave Grohl as you've seldom seen him before: not just live, but as the title Skin And Bones may hint, stripped down to his acoustic core. Well actually, not quite. Rather than just Grohl and a six-string, this collection--recorded at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles--harks back to the ensemble feel of Nirvana's 1994 album Unplugged in New York, familiar songs rebuilt by the Foos and a cast of musicians including violinist Petra Haden, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and even a member of that now legendary Nirvana session, Pat Smear. Stripped of the anthemic breeziness and solid, muscular riffing that have become Foo trademarks, Skin And Bones relies more on prettifying the arrangements with strings, shakers, and slow splashes of cymbal, and occasionally uncovering new levels of pathos beneath the sweat and grit. "Walking After You" feels custom-written for this format, while the crescendos of "My Hero" gain a little more humanity in this more intimate setting. And when the bigger hits come, Grohl makes up for the absence of feedback and fireworks with sheer frontman charisma, summoning up some throaty Springsteen emotiveness on "Best of You" and climaxing with a heroic "Everlong." --Louis Pattison

very pleased (Rating: 5 out of 5) this dvd has everything a crazy woman who has foo fever can ask for. close ups of dave grohl!! the music is slowed down and you can hear the lyrics!! i love it
A Live Best Of (Rating: 5 out of 5) Have you ever bought an album because you really like the song and than you play it and the song you like sounds nothing like the rest of the album. That is how I feel about the Foo Fighters. I buy the album for a single and find that the album rocks a little harder than my tastes.
Skin and Bones plays like a best of for songs you will have heard on the radio. It is a good solid album and every song is familar. Based on buying this album I bought tickets to see the FF live at the Joint, I can only hope the show is as good as this album.
Get ready to be blown away by this semi acoustic GEM! (Rating: 5 out of 5) I've always been a fan of the Foo Fighters. Sure, they are loud, most of the time that is. But hey, who in rock and roll can top Dave Grohl's marvelous sense of humor? Whenever I take a plane I think of the Foo's Learn To Fly video and start laughing as the crew prepares their usual take off procedures.
Everybody knows Dave Grohl as having been Nirvana's drummer. So it is to no surprise that people compare this semi acoustic live album to Nirvana's terrific Unplugged in New York.
But Dave isn't Curt - he doesn't want to be, doesn't need to. He's an amazing songwriter in his own right and the Foo Fighters are a terrific band.
In Your Honor, the album they brought out one year previous to this one, already had one disc with just acoustic songs. They were a truly amazing set of songs.
Here they play songs from all their previous albums showing that great songs can be played in a lot of different ways. They will forever be great songs.
But don't think of this as stripped down. It's perfect the way it is. Nothing is missing. It's just another take. That's what I expect when I go to a concert, to be surprised; not another album played live with every note as I already know it.
This set has 15 songs recorded in August 2006 live at Pantages Theater, Hollywood. A perfect recording with great mastering by ... Bob Ludwig (who else)
My favorites: Razor, Over and Out and Cold Day in the Sun
Apart from Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett, you'll find Petra Haden on violin, mandolin and vocals, Drew Hester, percussion and vibes, Rami Jaffee, piano, mellotron, accordion and organ, Pat Smear, acoustic and electrical guitar, Danny Clinch, harmonica.
BEWARE PAL FORMAT!!! (Rating: 5 out of 5) Though, the new one on top clearly states NTSC alot of the used ones are in PAL format. SELLERS WAKE UP AND CLEARLY STATE THAT FACTY
Also, the movie is great. Its called Skin and Bones cause its back to basics roots of music, acoustic. If your looking for foo fighters as you've never herd them before this is the DVD for you. Just make sure you dont get an illiterate seller, selling PAL here in the NTSC like i did. Good luck with your purchase.
Some excellent material. (Rating: 4 out of 5) A great band, an excellent idea, just barely missed the perfect mark, because of few covers, and lackluster playability on popular singles.
