Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This is an aftermarket (NOT SONY) 2400 mAh 3.6 volt psp battery pack. It has 2x the battery life than that of regular 1200mAh. New slim design excellent for PSP SLIM and PSP 2000 (all PSP models)

Customer Reviews

Want more power...you got it! No need to charge for up to 14 hours.  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

You'll love this battery pack; it works like a champ on all PSP formats including the new 3000 series. You can play for up to 14 hours without re-charging. Great product and highly recommended!

Stay away from these!  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I took my chance on this battery from someone of the marketplace and pretty much word for word all the symptoms are there: Made in Japan, barcode missing, doesn't retain the charge much at all. I've had mine for about a month or so and slowly the battery indicator has begun to flicker as though I had the charger connected. Do yourself a favor and buy legit from your nearest electronic store. I payed 17 bucks for mine here so it wasn't a big loss but avoid the hassle of waiting for your order just to be disappointed about your purchase. I'm on my way to fry's right now to buy me a legit battery.

Make sure you get an actual Sony - pay $40 or $45, it's worth it  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

Many fake PSP batteries claim to be original Sonys. You can tell authentic "backlist" Sony batteries (discontinued recently due to the new "slim" PSP release) because they come in packaging with English language on the back and say "made in China". The actual battery has a barcode on the back of it. Fake PSP 2200 mAh have Chinese language on the back of the packaging and say "made in Japan" (an unlikely claim). The fake battery itself has no barcode on the back of it.

In use, the fake will not give any indicator of battery life; the indicator flashes on and off and no time estimate of remaining power is left. When charged and connected to AC current, the indicator will list less than 6 hours of battery life. (The standard PSP 1800 mAh has a max battery life of 6H 28M; anything less than this total means the battery has less power, not more.) Therefore a fake 2200 mAh gives less battery life than a real 1800 mAh original PSP battery will.

A real Sony 2200 mAh battery will take about three hours to charge, will display a steady battery indicator icon, and will give max power time estimate of 7H + when fully charged. You will get about 20% more battery life than with the original Sony issue 1800 mAh battery.

The fake Sonys according to other net sources also have less of a lifetime charge capacity and lose ability to hold max power over time. Also, the fakes are somewhat bulkier and fit more tightly in the battery slot.

These bulkier batteries, real and fake, will not fit in new PSP slims. Sony has pulled the old 2200 mAh batteries from the market because of this, and is now reissuing them in a kit with new battery covers so they will fit the slims. Some retailers have the old legitimate Sony 2200s in stock and will sell them for $40, while other retailers are getting the new Sony Extended Power kit (with the same battery but the added case cover) for $45.

Amazon itself does not sell either authentic Sony battery currently. The Amazon marketplace sellers frankly are not to be trusted to sell a legitimate Sony battery for $20 or $30 bucks. The marketplace vendor I bought from promised an "authentic Sony battery" for $30 but it was not. If you want real Sony batteries, you need to pay real Sony prices.

The fakes work worse than the real ones do, so the "discount" you get really takes its toll in utility and longevity. Either buy from Amazon if and when they restock real Sony products, or buy from a big retailer like Best Buy or GameStop. Amazon should not let these fakes be sold by its marketplace affiliates.

DON'T BUY IT  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I am very frustrated with this purchase. The new battery DOES NOT WORK with the new PSP Slim (also known as PSP-2000). I've tried with at least 4 diff. PSPs Slim, no success. According the seller it would work, but it didn't. Besides, even using PSP-1000,it worked lesser than the standard battery. Another point: it is a little smaller than the standard one;if you shake your PSP it may turn off. I totally discourage this purchase.

Junk for PSP Slim  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

Don't buy this from amazon, especially if you have a PSP slim. The other reviews are right. If you get the battery with the Japanese writing it will charge in your PSP but do nothing else. At least this is my experience.
