XtremeMac IPV-MIC-20 MicroMemo Digital Voice Recorder (Rating: 4 out of 5) Awesome! Works like a charm. The neat feature is that the microphone can be detached for easy storing and transporting. Also, the microphone is flexible whereby you can bend and direct it to the audio source. The device gives you the option to record in high or low quality. I imagine the high quality takes up more space. I have it set to high only because I have a 160 GB iPod and have ample space for it. This device is perfect for recording table conferences. I'm not sure how it will work when recording an actual lecture where if the speaker (lecturer)is far away from the microphone. I suspect the clarity may sound a little low, therefore, you'll have to increase the volume on playback to really hear what was recorded.
The Pro: On a full charge, it can be used to secretly record a conversation for hours! The fact that it is so small and inconspicuous, it would work perfectly. Also, each recording is chronologically recorded by date and time. The selling price is perfect! Very much worth the money.
The only negative feedback I can truthfully write is about the attached speaker which incorporates the main component of the device. It does not work when you are trying to playback a recording. I'm not sure if I have a faulty device. It's not a big problem for me because I listen to my recordings via my headphones or car audio speakers. Also, be careful when you sync it to iTunes. Any new recordings will be added to your Smart Playlist (i.e. "Recently Added" playlist). You could be rockin it out to your favorite tune that you just bought and then the next track switches to a discussion about Risk Management. "What's deal with Ovaltine . . . Why don't they just call it Roundtine."
Excellent tool (Rating: 5 out of 5) As a teacher of a differentiated group of high schoolers, I use this to record lectures into my iPod and then forward them by email to my students who cannot effectively take notes due to LD issues or processing challenges. The parents, too, can listen in and find out what it is that I say and how I explain the method. So far, the best tech use in my classroom!
GREAT product (Rating: 5 out of 5) This recorder works excellent. Compared to one I got for my daughters Nano, THIS MP3 recorder is perfect. The sound quality is good. it is simple to use, has the added feature of being able to unplug the mic and use another input device, including line-inputs if you have the right cord to connect to your recorder from another source (like a radio headphone jack for example).
Buy this unit direct from Amazon. I love mine, and I am certain you will like this unit as well. To see my comments about the MP3 Recorder for a Nano, please see my other reviews. Amazon.com has a fantastic return policy, and not all resellers have the same policy. Please read my review about the Nano MP3 Recorder to see why it is best to buy DIRECTLY from Amazon.Com.

WAV recording and high battery consumption (Rating: 2 out of 5) This was not exactly what I was looking for the following reasons:
1. Only records in WAV format. I don't know if this is an exclusively IPOD OS feature but two hours of recording uses 1.5GB (Too much in my concern)
2. It consumes the full IPOD battery in less than 2.5 hours and the worst part is that this device has not choice to plug any charger the IPOD simultaneously.
3. It has to be very (when I say very is very very) close to the source in order to capture a good record.
4. When the device is attached to the IPOD you have to be very careful because is too easy to disconnect.
In other words need a better design to fix the power consumption problem, the recording sensibility/format and the "attachability" to the IPOD
good for lecture recording (Rating: 4 out of 5) i used this product to record the lectures. it is great if you are sitting in fornt row, or closer to the professor. however, if you are recording from back of the lecture hall or a class, then it will be a hiss sound. the more closer the better sound quality. you would get a great sound quality if you put it on the professor's table. at the end, i am happy with it.
note: make sure you buy ipv-mic 20, not ipv-mic 00.
