Product DescriptionIt is New Year’s Eve when the storm of the century hits northern California. In a quiet neighborhood in San Francisco, amid the chaos of fallen trees and damaged homes, the lives of three strangers are about to collide. For Quinn Thompson, what happens in the storm’s wake will bring down a barrier he has built around himself since his wife’s death. For neighbor Maggie Dartman, it will spark friendship at a time when she needs it most. And for Jack Adams, a carpenter who will repair Quinn’s and Maggie’s homes, the storm brings an opportunity: to help two people and to be repaid with the greatest gift of all.
As three lives come together and a unique friendship is forged, something extraordinary begins to happen…Maggie, still grieving a loss, slowly comes alive again–and Jack finally shares a painful secret he has hidden for years. But at the center of the friendship is Quinn. A man who has scaled heights of success in business, Quinn is now adrift, waiting as builders put the finishing touches on his newest passion, a 180-foot yacht he plans to sail around the world. Looking back at all he missed with his family while he built his empire, Quinn is consumed by guilt, focused only on escaping to the sea. But as his plans near completion, and his friendship with Maggie begins to change, Quinn faces a choice–between a safe haven and an adventure of the heart. The choice he makes will affect other lives as powerfully as his own. And it will take him on an extraordinary journey–and into a second, terrifying storm, one that will bring him danger…or deliverance.
Danielle Steel brings us miracles big and small–the kind we are blessed with and those we give to others. With a subtle hand and a flawless touch, she has written a novel that soars with hope, and makes us laugh, cry, and care.
Dull as Dishwater (Rating: 2 out of 5) I finished listening to this audio CD and was very "underwhelmed". Danielle Steel is using the same old storylines over and over again, perhaps thinking her readers won't notice. Believe me, we do. The main characher of Quinn Thompson is so dull that after a while it's all one can do to think, Who Cares? The man is obsessed by sailing and playing liar's dice - a real bore. The storyline of the illiterate carpenter could have been an intriguing one, with some good potential for story development. Instead, Quinn teaches him to read in a few short lessons, and soon the guy is in college studying to be an architect! Pretty unrealistic. The character of Maggie is one-dimensional, as well. Overall, it's a dull, predictable story. If you want to read/listen to great Danielle Steel, go to her older works: The Dating Game, The Wedding, and Answered Prayers are among the best.
Great for Mom's on the GO... (Rating: 5 out of 5) Danielle brought it to us this time ladies. As a mother of two young children who only has time to read in waiting rooms and at night before bed, this book is written in such a way that you can jump right back into the page exactly where you left off. She draws you into the soul of each charachter and you find yourself inside their emotion and praying with them and for them; and with each turn of the page you stuble and climb with them. Great, Great, Great!!!
Looking for a mindless romance novel? (Rating: 3 out of 5) It's why I still read Danielle Steel. No, her writing is not a fraction of what it once was. Yes, I wish her stories would dare to be about something different and new and fresh. However, I am a hopeless fan and do enjoy an ocasional mindless read in between books I consider more serious. Thus, DS does her job for me.
I did enjoy the friendship of this story. I also enjoyed the lesson it was trying to incorporate. Overall I enjoyed the reading, but would most definitely recommend an older DS novel for anyone looking to read her books- Message from Nam, Star, Daddy etc.
Sweet Story (Rating: 3 out of 5) It is a wonder what a simple can do to the life of 3 different person. Danielle Steel have done it well...
It is a pity to me to Jack did not end up sailing with him, that would be perfect for all a threesome...
Something to Believe in (Rating: 5 out of 5) Find hopes and dreams in this novel about middle-aged love. You won't be able to keep from believing in miracles.
