Product DescriptionThis long-standing tradition was continued by writer-traveller Bruce Chatwin who used to buy his moleskines at an old Paris stationery shop in Rue de l'Ancienne Comedie where he would always stock up before embarking on one of his journeys. Over the years he had developed a veritable ritual. Before using them he would in fact number the pages, writing on the inside his name and at least two addresses across the world, and a message promising a reward for anyone finding and returning the notebook in case of it being lost. He even suggested this method to his friend Luis Sepulveda, when he gave him a precious moleskine as a present for a journey they were planning to undertake together in Patagonia. And there was no doubt as to how precious it was, given that at the time even the last moleskine manufacturer, a small family-run firm of Tours, had discontinued production in 1986. 'Le vrai moleskine n'est plus' was the short and curt statement of the owner of the stationery shop where Chatwin had ordered one hundred before leaving for Australia. Despite having literally swept up all the Moleskines he could find, they were not enough. Now, the moleskine is back again. This silent and discreet keeper of an extraordinary tradition, which has been missing for years, has set out again on its journey. A witness to contemporary nomadism, it can once again pass from one pocket to another to continue the adventure. The sequel still waits to be written and its blank pages are ready to tell the story.
Great handy sized sketchbook! (Rating: 5 out of 5) I use this great little book as sort of a philosopher's stone, write, use watercolor crayon, India ink, pencil, pen, whatever I have handy. The thicker paper fits what I need in a field journal. If the paper is wet first and allowed to soak, the paint goes on and stays. it does dull, but I'm not selling the precious pages of my journal, I hope my kids can sell them after I'm gone to support them in their old age.
100% satisfied. (Rating: 5 out of 5) I ordered this sketchbook and being as good as disables without a sketchbook in hand, I even bought a cheap one at the grocery store to last me the wait while my new one shipped. Most things I order show up late int the delivery estimate.
Not this one.
To my delight, my sketchbook arrived early, a day before the first day of the two week period estimated for delivery and before amazon had even let me know it had shipped. That's some speed.
The sketchbook itself is wonderful. It has a pocket in the back for scrap paper and what not, and a ribbon page marker. It's a convenient size, and it's very inspiring. looking at the paper I do believe it will do well for me as an artist specializing in pens and pencils.
I'm very happy with it. Thank you!
Ballpoint Paradise (Rating: 5 out of 5) Other reviewers rightfully criticize the smooth paper surface, and if you've never had the opportunity to examine one of these firsthand, the card-like paper can be a disappointment. This is ideally suited to sketching in ballpoint or fine-tip sketching markers like Sakura Micron or Pilot Razor Point. If you don't mind holding the pages open for a while to dry, you can also sketch with a crow-quill, though anything approaching a wash is pretty much impossible. It's decent, though not ideal, for gouache. Graphite is fine as long as you're not expecting to be able to lay down a lot of dark tones, and the hardbound format helps minimize smudging during transport. This is my first choice in cafe doodling sketchbooks.
Fabulous for Art Journaling! (Rating: 5 out of 5) I purchased this sketchbook for art journaling and I absolutely love it! The pages are thick like cardstock so they stand up well to painting and glueing. The binding is also great because the pages open up nice and flat. I would definitely buy another moleskine!
Moleskine sketch book (Rating: 5 out of 5) Love my moleskin sketch book...and really appreciate Amazon.com's rapid response to my request! The pages are thick enough for me to draw and paint on the pages without soaking through. I draw my own calendar....and use this for everything! Great size...not too big...not too small.....everyone should have it to use as a journal...or dream book....or address book. multipurpose!
