Da verdict is in: The cats are CRAZY about Da Bird! Da Bird consists of a 36" fiberglass rod, 50 lb. test braided nylon string and aerodynamically configured feathers that mimic the action and of a REAL bird in flight. Go Cat makes 2 types of Da Bird. The ORIGINAL Da Bird is a single pole that is 36 inches long. They also make a version that has a pull apart pole (it is actually 2 18 inch poles that connect on the ends) so it can be easily stored and/or mailed. Both offer your cat great fun! (we personally prefer the single pole version as sometimes if one of the cats jumps high enough and grabs the feathers and comes down with force, it can pull the poles apart. On average this happens every couple of play sessions, but can be easily stopped by putting glue in the connector). (becasue of the length of this toy, it cannot ship out of the USA. I'm sorry to say that we experienced two problems with "Da Bird" in our household:

First, the feathers are too big for a kitten. Our siamese arrived at our house at 3 weeks old, and loved a "bouncy mouse on a string" toy my husband found at a supermarket, but gave Da Bird a wide berth. After a while, she would play with it, never wholly enthusiastically. I feel sure it was because the feathers were nearly as long as she is (not including her tail).

Second, after two weeks, the feathers broke off and so the toy is now kaput.

"Da Bird" is great!!! i thought that i had a lazy cat until i discovered this toy. My cat now begs to play with it and will sit outside the closet that its tucked away in :) My cat will jump high and run around the entire house chasing this toy!!!! But make sure you get the feathers, i tried the other replacements that look like a rabbits tail and it doesn't get my cat going like the feathers!!! best money i have ever spent!!! i will never again buy another toy at wal-mart for my cat!

i love this toy for my cat....because the rod is so long...i can sit in one place and just swing the feather around...my cat is always interested because the feather lands in different areas of the house.

Our cats went nuts over this toy. The way the feathers spin, the noise they make - it really does sound like fluttering wings. Still the favorite, every time it's brought out. It's the only toy that can get my older, arthritic cat moving, which he does need to do.

I much prefer this original one-piece rod to the one that comes apart. The original may not be as convenient to store, but I find that the one that comes apart for storage does exactly the same thing when my cats play with it. It's taped together now but is still a bit unreliable, so we've bought a couple of the solid pole versions and are much happier with them.
