Memorex 3202-8007 OptiFix Pro DVD/CD Motorized Scratch Repair Kit

Customer Reviews

Not worth its weight in sand  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I bought this product for $20. Tried to repair a couple of CD's with it, but this device created more circular scratches on the disc.

Please dont ever buy this item.

Do not waste your money!  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I only give this one star because there is nothing lower. This did nothing but put a dent in my wallet. Does not work AT ALL!

The good, the bad, and the inevitable  (Rating: 3 out of 5)

First, why have a personal DVD repair system? For me it was when we're watching a movie and it starts pausing and skipping, and I have a better alternative than to just give up trying to watch it after cleaning it with windex doesn't work. If the Optifix doesn't work, at least I had a better way to try to get the movie going again.

I believe their is no such thing as a perfect DVD repair system. However, some DVDs are borderline dirty/scratched that a good cleaning and a turn through the "fixing" mode should bring SOME of those DVDs back from the brink.

With that in mind, Optifix works, though not perfectly. I have three young children that can be rough on DVDs (especially the children DVDs). Using Optifix to first clean, then attempt a repair, and then clean again, I have about a 60% success rate of returning DVDs to playable status. That's the good news, and by itself should rate a four star review.

The reason that its three stars is that the pads need replaced frequently. They get worn out fast, especially when unused for days or weeks, and can start to scratch the DVDs themselves if not replaced often. Twenty uses is about the maximum. So if I "save" 12 out of twenty disks, it probably saves me $120 - 240 in having to buy a new disk to replace the old one. Heck, even "saving" one or two disks per kit that you like well enough to rebuy is worth the $8.00 or so for that kit.

My only response to the "it scratched my DVD even more" one-stars is this: First, the disk wasn't working already if you were trying to repair it. Second, replace the pads more often, especially if you haven't used the device in a while.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I was forced to put a one star rating, in actuality, there shouldn't be any!!!
For those of you new to these types of products, you might be very curious about using this cheap product. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
It simply doesn't work. I know I've done better by using a good toothpaste and your thumb (check out youtube). Its just my hands got tired and I wanted something a little more mechanical.
This product does not work, just walk by it at the store and don't even look at it. I bought mine yesterday, its going back to Wally's today.

Just buy a new CD!  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I've tried this on at least 20 CD/DVDs just to see if it actually repaired them. It doesn't. In fact, it added scratches to a perfectly good blank CD that I used as an experiment.

If you have a damaged disc, buy another disc. Don't waste your money on this "repair kit."
