The penguins steal the show. In the sprightly Madagascar, a mid-life crisis inspires Marty the Zebra (voiced by Chris Rock) to escape from his lifelong home, a New York zoo. His equally pampered friends--Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer)--then escape to bring him back. Unfortunately, their attempt at damage control persuades zoo officials that the animals are unhappy, so all four get shipped to an animal preserve in Kenya...only a squad of maniacal penguins change the destination to Antarctica. The quartet end up on an island where, in addition to meeting some hedonistic lemurs, they learn about the food chain--and that Alex is a different link on the chain from the other three. Madagascar doesn't achieve the snappy perfection of a Pixar movie, but it tops most other computer-animated efforts; the collision of friendship and predator instincts makes for an unusually gripping conflict. The vocal performances of the central characters is serviceable, but Sacha Baron Cohen (Da Ali G Show) provides topnotch lunacy as the lemur king, and the penguins--voiced mostly by the animators themselves--are the best thing in the movie. --Bret Fetzer

Awesome  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

I love amazon, I can always find cool stuff and get it right away and I don't have to worry because I know I'm getting the best quality for my money. Madagascar rocks!! I like to move it move it.

An Absolute Delight!!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

I have seen this movie more than I can count, and I laugh hysterically everytime! Each animal character has their own issues (personal baggage). The hypochondriac giraffe; the conceited lion, a charming hippo and a zebra with a low self-esteem. I can't listen to "Staying Alive" anymore without picturing Marty, the Zebra, sashaying down the city streets, to the beat..We still find ourselves quoting the penguins, "smile and wave boys, smile and wave"...The animation is perfect for kids, but the inside jokes and innuendos are classic adult! I highly recommend purchasing this movie! I can't get enough! Madagascar 2 is hilarious as well! Can't wait to get that on DVD also!

Issues with LG BH200  (Rating: 3 out of 5)

I've seen the movie before and it's great.

I have trouble getting it to play on my LG BH200, which I understand is a problem with the player, not necessarily the disc; however, none of my other Blu-Ray discs seem to have any problems being played on the BH200.

The issues with this movie and the BH200 are known and hopefully LG can fix this with a firmware upgrade.

Love it!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

Love this video, and it was great to watch it before going to see Madagascar 2 in the theater.

Animals Leave Babylon (NYC) for Madagascar: Another Speilberg Holocaust Movie?  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

Hitler's original "Final Solution to the Jewish Problem" was to send the Jews to Madagascar, which I think would have been a better place than Palestine.

This movie takes animals from the heart of Babylon (a city of commerce & confusion) on a journey similar to the transports of Jews to the concentration camps.

I liked the party animals in Magagascar the best (love to party with 'em, liked the music). Unfortunately, the party is crashed by meat eating cat-like creatures.

The only animal that I really liked was the psychedelic zebra. The hippo has a lovely voice, without a body to match. The psychedelic trips the lion took was cool too.

Yet, the animals, like Jews escaping slavery with Moses long for the fleshpots of NYC.

Loved the animation, laughed a few times but found the movie scary!
