Product DescriptionIn the United States alone, more than four million people are infected with the hepatitis C virus, and chronic liver disease is the twelfth leading cause of death.
In this revised and updated edition of her groundbreaking 2000 book, renowned hepatologist Dr. Melissa Palmer discusses all facets of liver disease, from symptoms and tests to treatment options and lifestyle changes. In addition, this comprehensive handbook reveals cutting-edge research on the dangers of hepatitis C, one of the world's fasting-growing microbial threats.
"You Have Hepatitis. What Now?" (Rating: 5 out of 5) "You have hepatitis!" Frightening words to so many people. Too many patients hear those words and are left in a state of fear - what does that mean?, what do I do now?, will I die?, what about my family?, can they catch it?
As a psychiatrist my professional job is to allay anxiety. Surprise to know that the best weapon against anxiety is not medication, but education. The adage, "know your enemy" carries the truth that "knowledge is power". We fear the unknown.
In counseling my patients who discover that they have liver disease in one form or another, the patient, the family and my own greatest ally is knowledge gained from Dr. Mellisa Palmer herself, or through sharing the knowledge imparted by her book, "Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide to Hepatitis and Liver Disease".
This book is a masterfully crafted volume easily understandable to all who live with, suffer from or treat liver dysfunction. The information contained in these four hundred plus pages is invaluable.
Borrow it from your library or from a friend, but, better yet - own your own copy for easy reference to any question, any anxiety, about your disorder right there at your finger tips.
A FIVE STAR ADDITION IN TIME OF NEED.

The Best Liver Disease Book to date (Rating: 5 out of 5) Dr. Palmer's book is by far the best book on Liver Disease that I've read, to date. She has years of experience w/ Liver disease treatment & has written this book in a manner that is understandable for the lay-person, like myself, but at the same time educates us to the workings of these diseases, their causes, possible treatments & possible preventions. This book told me more about these diseases than all the doctors ever have...because of having read this book we could be prepared & understand what was going on as a relative's condition worsened & were better able to meet her needs.
Tremendously Informational Liver Book (Rating: 5 out of 5) This book is a "must have" for ANYONE whom is either dealing with a liver disease, has a relative that is, or even a medical professional! Considered the "liver bible" by those of us dealing with liver diseases.
Hepatitis & Liver Diseases (Rating: 5 out of 5) Excellent book to help those who have liver disease or family and friends of those with liver disease. The books answers questions
that arise when your personal doctor may not be available. Or that
you may forget to ask during your office visit!
liver disease book (Rating: 5 out of 5) This book is very insightful. It explains a lot about what is going on with several different liver diseases. It answered some questions that general physicians were unaware of about rare diseases.
