This book was what I have been searching for. It gives great and simple advice in a professional detailed way.

Anyone suffering from depression, anxiety or other neurological issues, I highly recommend this book. I have read everything out there on the subject of diets that help mood, and this is by far the most scientific and on target book out there.

To me, this book is all about positive realism. It doesn't make any oulandish claims about some super supplement that will boost your IQ by fifty points. It presents health in a understandable but intelligent way, with no shameless promotion of any products, and makes suggestions that one could_possibly_undertake. This book can best be described as integrative: it shows once again that the body is one and connected. Although it's called "the brain diet," this book is more of a lifestyle plan--so much more than just a diet. I encourage everyone to pick this up if you are willing to take a step to improve your health and your childrens'.

A Must Read!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

I have read many books on nutrition, and this one stands out as among the very best. Fully referenced, it provides a deep understanding of how poor nutrition, stress and lifestyle culminate to take a toll on brain function. Logan dismantles the nutritional myths and makes his case in a clear and concise way. The chapter on the changing Japanese diet was an eye-opener and should be cause for concern for all of us. It is indeed, as Logan says, "one of the largest nutritional experiments in human history". The other thing that stands out about this book is the connection he makes between gut and brain health. Based on the information in that chapter, I will never view probiotics in the same, simplistic way again. If you have even a small interest in nutrition and the health of your brain, this truly is a must read!!

Disappointed  (Rating: 2 out of 5)

Overly, I was utterly disappointed by this book, which showed great promise at first, but as time passed I could see the multiple issues with this book. Firstly, this book has no citation markings that can be used for cross reference. End notes tend to be helpful when verifying information without having to pour through the number of references that are listed in the back. Secondly, the literature review was thoroughly poor throughout. From misinformation on coffee, to saturated fats, cholesterol, and practically every topic, the literature review was not fully well done with information. It was quite dumbed down, and much was left out, citing perhaps from cherry picked studies but never opting to give much insight to critical studies and the like.

On the more positive note, the recipes that are provided are decent enough, and there is some good information throughout if you already do know some things about nutrition.

In conclusion, this book was watered down with little substance, and mired by the somewhat continuous mistruths of science. More depth is needed for proper appreciation.

what can I say except that I was truly shocked to read about the lack of so many needed things in our daily diets. every chapter mentioned something or the other which was enlightening. after reading this book, i went out for grocery and believe it or not, based on what I knew about what certain cultures eat, i was actually looking at people's hair and remembering all the things this book had said about what was probably missing in these peoples diets.
