Product DescriptionMax Holman knew the two minute rule: Get in, get the cash, and get out. But two minutes can be a lifetime. . . . In one moment of weakness he botched a bank job and was sent away for years. Now released from prison, Max wants to reconcile with his estranged son, an L.A. cop. Instead he receives the devastating news that his son's been gunned down in cold blood. To uncover the truth about the killing, Max aligns with Katherine Pollard, the ex-FBI agent who put him away -- in a father's search for justice and revenge.
Creative storyline, interesting characters (Rating: 4 out of 5) This book has an original storyline that I liked quite a bit. It certainly keeps you solidly engaged and reading to the end, even if isn't off the charts captivating.
The idea of an ex-con hooking up with the FBI agent that arrested him is different - and that definitely helps keep you interested. For their own various reasons, they need each other and end up working well together in solving this fairly complex crime.
As with other Crais books, I didn't find the character development quite as rich as with some other writers like Thomas Cook, but still the folks come to life well enough and you get a good feel for them.
I did find the lead character - Holman, the ex-con - a bit schizo: one minute he's like got it all together and is the master crime fighter and the next he's blowing up for small reasons. Maybe that's real life, but it felt a little off to me.
Still, you gotta like and root for the guy to succeed. And you also gotta like and root for his FBI partner, too, as they fight the good fight against mayhem and corruption.
thoroughly engrossing! (Rating: 5 out of 5) loved this book, especially since any direction your mind thought it was going in, took an abrupt turn and there you were wondering again! Could not put it down, Crais is one of the best. A page turner, kept my interest until the very last sentence.
Enjoyable read (Rating: 4 out of 5) This is my first time reading this author and for the most part I was thoroughly entertained. Crais is no Lehane or Connolly as the quotes on the cover suggests, but he's still a note worthy talent nonetheless. I thought the ultimate bad was a little disappointing and I couldn't understand how Marchenko and Parson were these professionals that amassed this fortune when in the opener they clearly don't a hear to the two minute rule. They were supposedly amateurs, but had on the other hand had been so successful. Plus, you never understand why they were robbing so many banks. I think the last act could've had a few more fun surprises, but the author went a safe route. Still entertaining. I'll continue to read this author.
The 2 Minute Rule (Rating: 2 out of 5) This is not an Elvis Cole Mystery. It was very slow moving and I regret that I purchased it.
Thoroughly Enjoyed! (Rating: 5 out of 5) This was a really wonderful, hard-to-put down page turner from Mr. Crais, with very likable characters, especially Max. I'd love to see his life revisited in a future novel. Great job Mr Crais.
