Would you buy a product from Charlie Manson? (Rating: 1 out of 5) I have the dubious distinction of growing up in his home town and attending the same high school just before Mr. Trudeau. Do a little research of your own online. He is barred for life by the FTC from selling products. His use of the Free Speech protections to continue his racket is cynical, even for him. Unlike his previous scams, people have died from this one. His latest one is preying on people about to lose their homes in a tough economy. Nice. We can all show what kind of people we are by shunning this sociopath. Buy any of his books and you are part of the problem.
Physician recommended (Rating: 5 out of 5) I am a Physician and I decided to do this diet after having had two pregnancies back to back. Since my HCG levels had been so high for 2 years, I felt it would be safe for me. It is very rigid, but it is for only 6 weeks and you really do lose about a pound a day. The book really does enlighten you as to how the food industry is responsible for making Americans obese. The shots are not painful- you use very fine insulin type needles and inject the HCG yourself. You do probably need to go to a "diet clinic" to get the prescription because most doctors are not aware of the diet or safety of using HCG. You do not have to do all the vitamins or cleanses recommended in the book. Most clinics will give you the essential vitamins you need as part of their package. They may also give you the teas so don't stress about how expensive it will be to buy everything he presents in the book. If you follow the do's and don'ts in phase 4, you will not ever gain the weight back. I've seen patients get off of their blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetic medications from losing the weight. It really is all about being healthy for the rest of your life!
Good and bad (Rating: 3 out of 5) Not as bad as most of the reviews here. I will say this, you have to weed out the good from the bad. Kevin does make some false claims, like air conditioning is bad for you... air passes through something that is cold, and cools the air, so then heat is bad for you too. So you just have to weed out the nonsense from the facts.
However, this diet is based off of "Pounds and inches" which you can google, and get the facts from a real doctor. But here are the pros and the cons -
Pros -
You will lost weight hand over fist, I've tried a few diets, and nothing works this fast! Roughly, between 1 to 2 pounds a day. Although you are limited to the foods you can eat, but I was able to rotate between the bass and the beef (sometimes with onions and garlic, depending if I went out or stayed in...lol), and the meals were really good. You have to give yourself injections everyday, but it's not as bad as you think. They give you instructions, and you don't feel a thing if you follow the directions so don't be afraid.
The other thing I notice is that there are no more food cravings. Big macs, cookies, white castles, and when I tried this stuff, it didn't taste as good as I remember. Strange, but it's a good thing.
Cons -
You can't take any medications, this is because the chemistry in your body has to be perfect. I skipped phase 1 which is optional. The phase 2 takes 40 days, and phase 3 takes 21 days, so you're ready for some pancakes when you finish!... My suggestion is not to go over board after completing the diet, I did and I gained 10 lbs so far and it's been 6 weeks after I finished the diet, but with all diets you gain some of the weight back, so that's not so bad. You do have to get a checkup, and some blood work, submit the results, and fax over information, so you have to run around a little, (but it's worth it)
Overall I would recommend this diet, it does take a commitment. I did cheat a few times during phase 2, gained 4-8 lbs each time, and like I said before, you lose 2 lbs a day to get it off. That may be why I gain weight after it is all said and done. But I lost a lot of weight, even in the areas that were hard to get off like the belly fat.
I do recognize now that the belly wouldn't look so bad if I had better posture, so I'm working on that as well as working on keeping the weight off.
I've been dieting for 2 1/2 years, tried lots of diets, and this diet is for keeps. I started at 230 lbs, and 2 1/2 years later I'm down to 168 lbs. Although I still have a little belly which goes away if I force my posture into place, but people say I'm thin now, I'm a body builder..., and when I talk of a diet, they ask me if it's to bulk up (...for body building). After this diet is the first time that I started to get compliments about my size. All of which I greatly appreciate after 2 1/2 years of hard work.
Snake oil sales man sells another misleading book (Rating: 1 out of 5) It's a horrible book. Luckily, I didn't have to pay for this trash as I got this book from a coworker. I wish Kevin Trudeau would stop beguiling individuals' out of their money and playing on their hopes and dreams of getting their health and weight under control. I wish I could have given this book zero stars.
Good information (Rating: 3 out of 5) good information but I would have to take off a week or two from work to do this plan. Lots of steps involved.
