Customer Reviews

A mistake  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I was very disappointed in this book. I was looking for something with a lot more thought about the show. All this book is, is a rip off. There was way too much about religion and not nearly enough about the actual show, Lost. If I wanted a book about religion, I would have bought a book all about religion, and I would have bought one written by someone who really knows something about the subject. This guy just thinks he knows something about religion, but he really doesn't. It stunk.

Christians Could Learn A Lot From Lost!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

Mostly, Christians can learn how to be in the world but not of it! This book is a perfect example of how we can get directly involved in the most popular items in today's culture and find ways to express our faith through what is good in the world.

Lost is a secular tv show that has themes related to faith. Many are intentional and some are not. Regardless, there is a mound of great insight that is written into what is the most popular television show in history.

This book can help uncover some of the things that you may have missed when thinking about the theology and how lost relates to it.

I loved this book!

A preachy bore  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

Besides the fact that Mr. Piatt says on page 49 of the book that Ethan was murdered by Goodwin, which any hardcore Lost fan knows is not true, (it was Nathan--Charlie killed Ethan) this book also contains many more inaccuracies or states conjecture as fact regarding the series. Mr. Piatt is so proud of his role as a religious scholar, he bores the pants off anyone who really could care less about the religious ramifications, especially when espoused incorrectly by Mr. Piatt. He puts so much information about religion, nebulously making tie ins to the series, which don't actually work, that it's obvious the whole purpose of this book is to show off how smart Mr. Piatt is. It is a good book if you want a religious lecture. If you're a hardcore lost fan, you will be offended by his holier than thou preachy tone and the multitude of misstatements and inaccuracies included in the book. The other two books I bought at the same time as this are on my bookshelf with the DVDs of the first two seasons of Lost. This book now resides in a landfill.

MULTI-LEVEL READING  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

This excellent book works on lots of levels. It has a natural appeal to Lost fans, but it is also a fascinating read for those like me who have not kept up with series. Mr. Piatt's thought-provoking insights will stick with you. Whether you choose to read it on your own or with a discussion group, you'll find yourself saying "I read somewhere..." and realize that you read it in this book.

LOST Has Found IT!!!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

This is a stellar book. I am only recently a "Lost" fan. Mr. Piatt's book has helped me understand why watching "Lost" is so much work. This is a brilliant book that will be helpful to both those who follow the show and those who are looking for theological/sociological/philsophical conversations about pop-culture.
