For all of its conventional plotting about an obsessive-compulsive curmudgeon (Jack Nicholson) who improves his personality at the urging of his gay neighbor (Greg Kinnear) and a waitress (Helen Hunt) who inspires his best behavior, this is one of the sharpest Hollywood comedies of the 1990s. Nicholson could play his role in his sleep (the Oscar he won should have gone to Robert Duvall for The Apostle), but his mischievous persona is precisely necessary to give heart to his seemingly heartless character, who is of all things a successful romance novelist. As a single mom with a chronically asthmatic young son, Hunt gives the film its conscience and integrity (along with plenty of wry humor), and she also won an Oscar for her wonderful performance. Greg Kinnear had to settle for an Oscar nomination (while cowriter-director James L. Brooks was inexplicably snubbed by Oscar that year), but his work was also singled out in the film's near-unanimous chorus of critical praise. It's questionable whether a romance between Hunt and the much older Nicholson is entirely believable, but this movie's smart enough--and charmingly funny enough--to make it seem endearingly possible. --Jeff Shannon

Awful.  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

As Good As It Gets starring Jack Nicholson is the worst movie ever to win an Oscar for best picture. I hate this movie in every way possible, Helen Hunt is horrible in this, can't believe she won an Oscar as well. Greg Kinnear is the only saving grace here and even Old Jack looks uninspired. This film is not funny or touching, just plain unbearable.

Hilarious  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

This is a great movie. It is a great romantic comedy with the main character, played by Jack Nicholson, has OCD. It is sad/dramatic at times but overall it is pretty amusing. I think the best actor in the entire movie is the dog. The dog is just amazing. I absolutely love this movie and have watched it over a dozen times. It never gets old.

As Good As It Gets  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

All you can say is BRAVO!! this movie was awesome! all the actors did a great job. they couldnt hvae picked any other people to do the job Jack Nickleson and Helen HUnt did! Man ever since this movie i have been a big Helen Hunt fan!she is a great actress and people who say she's not feminine are just plain crazy. I dont see how anyone can see that!!!!and another thing i have read alot and some peopel think she is not a very good actress! well if she wasnt a very good one then why would there be such A demand for her! well i know everyone has there own feelings about this movie but i dont see how anyone could not like it!! it was one of the best movies i have ever seen! But thats just me! and i think Helen and jack deserved there awards they really did a breath taking proformance!! well that is just my feeling on the movie!!!

"You make me want to be a better man"  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

"As Good as It Gets" is Funny, insigthful, romantic, ... the main plot involves the encounter of an artistic man in his fifties who suffers from severe obsessive-compulsive disorder with a morally-correct waitress in her early forties who's trying her best to care for her allergy-prone child and still maintain the prospect of some romantic life. The most appealing aspect of the movie is the realization that through a true connection with another person ('love') and/or the simple acknoledgement of an individual's humanity, one maybe empowered with the necessary inner-strength to overcome difficulties and neurosis that otherwise, he or she may never have had the courage or willingness to address. This movie is famous for the performance of both Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson, including his line " You make me want to be a better man," which is a turning point in the movie when Jack's character undergoes a Self-realization that allows him to surpass some of his own limitations.

As Good as it gets and more!  (Rating: 4 out of 5)

I was really glad to get this title on DVD. It plays very well, and the delivery time was quick. I am very pleased with it. Garrett Ward
