A Big Fan - but not for this book! (Rating: 2 out of 5) First - I am generally a big fan of Nora Robert's books. I adore the JD Robb series! I was excited that this book appeared to start to introduce a new cool heroine for us. Wow - what a disappointment. I am wondering if someone else really wrote this for her given all the pressure to crank books out or something. Honestly - there was absolutely NO chemistry between the characters. The handsome guy was milk toast - and the heroine was whiny and boring. My sister actually bought the book and stopped ready about 1/4 of the way thru - I figured that I just needed to give it more time. Don't bother - it doesn't get any better than the boring read it is in the first 1/2. I'm sure I will read others as they come out but I sure hope the next ones have some interesting characters and a story that makes any sense... Save your money on this one...
Took Too Long To Finish (Rating: 2 out of 5) I started this book last winter, and read some of it, then put it away as I just could not get into it! I just finished, and agree that the police terminology is hard to follow. The story jumps around too much - would not even make a good Lifetime movie. It is hard to believe that this is a Nora Roberts Novel.
Roberts Never Fails the Reader (Rating: 5 out of 5) High Noon was a thoroughly enjoying novel. The characters were well developed and likeable. The plot twists were entertaining. A great read for the summer.
Disappointing (Rating: 3 out of 5) As I read this book, I kept wondering if it was the 2nd book of a Nora Roberts trilogy. I just knew there must be a book before and a book after that could explain all the hanging threads.
I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts and Savannah is one of my favorite cities, so when I picked this book up I was excited. Her description of the city falls flat. It's as if she picked up a tourist guide and used a few quotes, never really portraying the real character of the city.
As for the plot, so many threads are just "there", with no rhyme or reason. Some characters are thrown into the story with no introduction, others disappear with no explanation. Major story premises are not explained --- for instance WHY is Phoebe forced to live in the Jones St house?
This just doesn't even read like a Nora Roberts book to me. Skip this one and wait for her next.
First-time Nora Roberts reader (Rating: 5 out of 5) High Noon is the very first Nora Roberts book I have read and I have a lot of reading to catch up on if all of her books are like this one. I'm not an eloquent critic but I loved the relationship between Phoebe and Duncan. The story had the perfect amount of romance, humor, and suspense to keep me from putting it down.
