Editorial Reviews

Product Description

On a warm May night in San Francisco, the Ritz-Carlton ballroom shimmers as a glittering, celebrity-studded crowd gathers for a charity dinner dance. The evening is perfect—until, just minutes before midnight, the room begins to sway….

In the earthquake’s aftermath, the lives of four strangers will converge.… Sarah Sloane, the wife of a financial whiz, watches her perfect world fall to pieces…. Grammy-winning singer Melanie Free comes to a turning point in her life and career…. Photographer Everett Carson finds new purpose amid the carnage…and Sister Maggie Kent, a nun who works with the homeless, searches through the rubble—and knows that there is much to be done….

As the city staggers back to life, a chain reaction of extraordinary events will touch each of the survivors…. Sarah discovers a crime and a betrayal, then a strength she never knew she had. Volunteering at a refugee camp opens new worlds of possibility for Melanie. Everett will forge an unlikely relationship with Maggie, who helps him rebuild his shattered life—and upends her own in the process. And as a year passes each discovers the unexpected gifts in a tragedy’s wake…and the amazing grace of new beginnings.

Throughout these enthralling pages, Danielle Steel creates a stunning array of contrasts —from the dazzle of a society benefit to the chaos of a makeshift hospital, from the pampered lives of rock stars to the quiet heroism of emergency volunteers. It is her most powerful and life-affirming novel to date.

Customer Reviews

Likeable Characters- Good Storyline  (Rating: 4 out of 5)

Enjoyable book. If you enjoy this genre, without expecting great literature, then you will like this book. I like soap operas and JD Robb- if that provides any indication of taste. If you want believeable and realistic, or classic literature, skip this one and many others of its ilk.

A Pleasent Read  (Rating: 3 out of 5)

On a night that should be perfect and Earthquake shakes the city of San Francisco and the lives of three women who are successful but somewhat unfulfilled. Sarah Sloan, Melanie Free and Maggie Kent are sent on a new journey after the rubble settles in the city. All three of their lives are turned upside down and they have to face things that they never thought possible. Each looking for a way to live life with Amazing Grace.

As a long time fan of Ms. Steele, I found this read pleasant but not as endearing as some of her other titles. Amazing Grace delves into three very different woman in three very different places in their lives. The way they deal with tragedy, life altering circumstances are by turns inspiring and almost predictable. As I stated before this is a nice read but if you are looking for an emotional heart tugging read you may find yourself a little let down here.

HORRID STORY  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

This was the worse book ever! I actually through it out the window! I would never pass on this junk to anyone!

Not a huge Steel fan - and still not  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I try to read or listen to many Steel books but over and over again I find that she just puts words in to make it longer. She tends to repeat insights and visuals in the story. Once you comment that someone loves their job like Maggie, the reader has it; one does not need to say it ten times in the story. Steel does this in all books. If this book was abridged it could be cut in half for all the redundant comments.
This story is pretty far fetched too. There is no way in this day and age that a major city like San Francisco would be cut off from the outside world by more than several hours. There are many ferries that operate in the bay and anyone could get across to the east bay and get phone service. Also most companies have business continuation plans that are required by the government to get back up and running within 24 hours.
Now saying that, the story is not boring at all and it kept my attention. Give it a try and remember it is really not based on too much reality.

Wow..!  (Rating: 5 out of 5)

I must admit, being a big Danielle Steele fan, I have been disappointed in her last few books. But Amazing Grace is a real hit! I couldn't put it down! I read it in two days. She doesnt repeat herself all the time in this book as she does in previous books. It's solid story from cover to cover. I highly recommend the book!
