Great Sound System (Rating: 5 out of 5) Excellent sound and quality. Don't waste your money on a cheaper IPOD unit. The cheaper ones break and never deliver this kind of sound. Spending a little extra will give you great sound and a fantastic machine that will last for years to come.
Great Sound in a Small Package (Rating: 4 out of 5) I bought the SoundDock while in NYC while I was on vacation. I wanted to be able to listen to my and my wife's iPods while in our hotel room. I found a good deal on it at a local electronics retailer. After reading all the good reviews, I decided to take the plunge and get it.
Pros: Sound quality is good. It is very clear and precise. It fills the room and then some. It sounds great, even at higher volumes. I returned home a few days ago and setup the SoundDock in our dining room, which is an open wall room in between the living room and kitchen of our condo. It fills all three rooms equally. There is no significant loss of audio or volume when moving from one room to the other. It is a very small, compact package. It's easy to move around, which I have done between the three rooms downstairs as well as my office upstairs. It is very simple to use. Plug it in, put your iPod in it and press play. If you know how to work an iPod, then you know everything you need to know to make this work. The only controls on the SoundDock itself are the volume buttons. The remote is small and simple.
Cons: The dynamic range is not that great. This is no surprise for a speaker set this small. But it would be nice if the bass had a little more punch. However, you can't expect much without it being much bigger or having a separate subwoofer. There are no auxilary inputs, no clock, or other features often found on the other similar devices on the market. It's a speaker set, nothing else. No radio, no clock, no input, no sync dock, nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
Overall Impression: If all you want are some small, good sounding speakers, then this is the way to go. There are cheaper alternatives, but I don't believe that you will get the sound quality out of them as you would on this. It will not replace a 2.1 or greater sound system with a separate subwoofer. But it's not meant to replace them. If you want home theater sound, get a compatible dock, or plug it into an audio source on your system. But, if you want something compact you can put in a formal sitting, dining room, or other small room, this is the way to go. It's unobtrosive and blends well with most decor. It sounds great and is easy to use.
Three thumbs down! (Rating: 1 out of 5) I have 2 Bose products, the Lifestyle 48 to the QC2. I like them both, but I have to say this sound dock sucks. The sound quality is okay, but I still give this 1 star because:
1. The remote is one of those "credit card" types, which makes it look like it was made in Madagascar or something. Looks low quality for its price. No pun intended, Madagascar!
2. The power cord looks like it was made for your laptop (!). Sure, you can plug it into either a 110 or 220v outlet, but common! Couldn't they have internally emplaced that bulky thing? To top it all off, the pin-like part of the cord that connects to the dock always slips off! I mean there isn't at least something that "hooks" it in place! I had a BBQ at home one night and had to duct tape the cord so the music played all night.
3. For its price, you may as well buy their QC2/3 headphones. The cord alone irritated me, so I went to Best Buy and bought an Altec Lansing IM600. An IM7 is awesome, too.
You can buy 2 Altec IM600s for the same price and I promise you'll be satisfied. It's portable (lasts about 8-12 hrs. continuously), thinner, lighter, sounds just about the same, the remote storage is integrated into it, the cord stays on and it's smaller, and it also has FM radio! You can jam at the beach!
I was so disappointed with the Bose dock, I actually gave it away. I would have burnt it, but I knew one of the homeless guys downtown would appreciate a low-end product like this. After all, it was a "Bose". Oooooh! Even the new portable one is heavier than the IM600 and still doesn't have a radio!
After seeing my neighbor's AM5s in the 80's I thought Bose would forever rule. As I sit here writing this review and staring at my LS48 system($3,500+ by the way and no MP3/AAC capability), I suddenly feel like jumping off a building! It's no wonder why we're turning Japanese!
Great sound. (Rating: 5 out of 5) When I first plugged my Ipod to this speaker I began to hear instruments in the songs that I had never heard before. It has an amazing sound quality and works really well.
It almost takes no space and even though it isn't portable it's very easy to move. I'm happy with my purchase.
Bose SoundDock digital music system for iPod (White) (Rating: 5 out of 5) Looks good. Works good. Sounds good. Easy setup. Try it, you'll like it!
