Amazon.comThis new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF CD (Rating: 5 out of 5) THIS CD WAS WONDERFUL. IT BROUGHT BACK GREAT MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE PLAY, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF AND HAD THE ALBUM WHEN I WAS A KID. I EVEN HAD SUNRISE, SUNSET SANG AT MY WEDDING. WELL MY NEICE RECENTLY ASKED ME TO SING "SUNRISE, SUNSET " AT HER WEDDING, SO I GOT THIS CD FOR A QUICK REFRESHER AND AM SO READY TO SING.
JOHN WILLIAM'S First Oscar (Rating: 5 out of 5) The Original Soundtrack of the last great musical old fashioned of Hollywood, arranged and conducted by John Williams, who won his very firt Oscar with this movie.
A Great Musical ... (Rating: 5 out of 5) I'm not a Broadway or Musical expert, but this has much to offer. I suspect it should be on an expert list of Top Ten American Musicals.
It 'sounds' terrific to me and for a reasonable price you get John Williams and Isaac Stern in a Classic Soundtrack.
I hope they consider it among their better/best work, because I certainly enjoyed it as being Special ...
Very good soundtract! (Rating: 5 out of 5) The music is great and timeless. I bought both the soundtract and the movie. Topel and the other actors' performances are terrific. I remember liking the movie when I saw it when it came out and I thought my kids would like it. My kids love this soundtract and the movie and they go around singing several of the songs from it. They also wonder why Topol hasn't been in other movies. They love him as Tevye.
Disappointed (Rating: 1 out of 5) Could not use tape of Fiddler on Roof in my new car because only CD's can be used. Decided to purchase CD. Received product. Sound was unclear. Wanted original stage production or movie verrsion. Got a special put together 30th anniversary edition. Returned product for credit. Still hoping to get CD version of one of my favorate musicals.
