Product Description

Daul Air Path Technology / 12 AMPS / HEPA Filtration / 15" Cleaning Width / Agitator / Edge Groomers / Front Tool Storage / 31 Foot AC Cord

Amazon.com Review

Made for high-traffic areas and serious above-floor cleaning, this WindTunnel V2 bagless upright with hand tool from Hoover combines smart construction with versatile functionality. Built with a 12 amp motor, the vacuum can handle a wide range of surface types, from bare floor to deep-pile carpet. A special duct system prevents dirt from returning to the floor, and dual air path suction and side groomers deliver optimum edge cleaning. The floor nozzle has a 15-inch cleaning path for covering ground efficiently and double brush rolls to get at the dirt between carpet fibers. The vacuum is conveniently bagless and collects debris in a generously sized double-sided dirt cup. A screen between the chambers keeps large particles on one side and sends small debris and dust into the second chamber where they're trapped in the HEPA filter. When the dirt cup is full, you slide it out and empty it--a simple process thanks to the cup's sturdy handle and secure lid. The vacuum's HEPA filter can be tapped clean to extend its life, while the machine's prefilter and exhaust filter can be hand washed for repeated use.

For above-floor and spot cleaning, the vacuum's best feature is a powered hand tool that attaches to the hose and comes complete with its own rotating brush roll. Other attachments include an extension wand, a crevice wand, a dusting brush, and an upholstery tool. These are all stored onboard in side clips and a tidy front hatch. Beltless for easy maintenance, this model also includes handy extras, such as quick-release cord hooks, nonmarring wheels, a carrying handle, a 31-foot power cord, a furniture guard, and a headlight. The power switch is in the handle, and the three handle positions are controlled with a foot pedal. Hoover backs up the vacuum with a full one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

Customer Reviews

don't buy this one!  (Rating: 2 out of 5)

I have had this for a little over a year and it started out fine. Was supposed to be a high quality model when I got it. Within 6 months of very moderate used the beater brushes stopped turning. The little motor that turns the brushes is dead and they were not always used since i would turn them off when doing the linoleum and hardwood floors. I would estimate they had maybe 10 actual operating hours on the motor. To get it repaired was going to cost over $100. It was a gift so I didn't have a store receipt so warranty is useless because they don't know when the 'year' started. It had not been manufactured for a year yet but that doesn't matter apparently. What a disappointment

Horrible piece of junk  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

We bought this unit based on initial reviews. OMG what a disappointment. Though it has reasonably good suction when the ductwork isn't clogged up, the following problems have made this device difficult and painful (literally) to use:

(1) It is very heavy for an upright. Our occasional hired house cleaner refuses to carry it upstairs.

(2) It is difficult to push on any surface, but especially carpet.

(3) It is extremely noisy. We're talking SHREIK here. I wear earplugs when using it.

(4) The clear plastic ductwork leading from the pickup area tends to clog and is very difficult to clear out.

(5) The clips for winding up the cord are flimsey and quickly bent to where the cord slips off.

(6) The filter is very expensive [tip for those who own this unit-- you really never need to replace it. Brush it gently to remove built up residue]

We put up with this thing for 2 years, and now the brush-bar motor is burning up. Rather than buy the new $80 part, this vacuum is destined for the land fill.

Just about took an axe to this vacuum  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I came to Amazon to find reviews of vacuums, after desperately trying to get the dirt recepticle out of this vacuum ONE MORE TIME. I've had Hoover bagless vacuums before. This one is horrible. It sucks only fair-to-midlin' on bare floors. It sucks only fair-to-midlin' on heavy rugs. It sucks big time in the general usability factor. It's way too heavy.

Oh, I have to pray to the vacuum gods that the dirt recepticle will come out without benefit of power tools. And I have to empty said recepticle a lot, because the filters get plugged with pet hairs (just like the guy on the Dyson ads says) within a couple of minutes using vacuum.

Hoover U8149-900 WindTuneel bagless & bagged   (Rating: 4 out of 5)

Mine is a purple U8149 model. It is similar to the U8140. It came with a bonus set (a bagged package and an extra hose). I hope it is not as bad as the 8140.

I bought this from Fry's. I don't like bagless so I use the bonus bag set all the time. It is ok to me.

Pro
1. Powerful. There is a belt to tie the power cord of my laptop. The vaccuum took it out ! Make sure to use the lowest setting first.
2. I have 2 "very difficult to clean" carpets from IKEA. Before I bought this vacuum, I need to use tape to get the dirts off the carpet. With this vaccum, those carpets are like new now !
3. I can use it with or without the bag.
4. It has the HEPA filter.

Con:
I used it 3 times and I think I need to change the rating to 3 stars.

1. I am not sure if the carpet in my apartment is cheap or the vaccuum is too powerful. No matter which carpet depth I set, it took a lot of fabric from the carpet. I need to clean it almost everytime after I use it (I am renting a 890 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment unit). If I do not clean it, it will blow out the dirts.

2. Sometimes, it is not very good in cleaning bare floor (not hardwood floor). I was surprised.

Consumer Report said the Eureka is the best but I found it was too heavy (Wal-mart has it) so I bought the Hoover instead. Where is the perfect vacuum cleaner -

Worst vacuum ever  (Rating: 1 out of 5)

I have had this vacuum for 3 years. The floor cleaning feature of it hadn't picked up any dust from day one, so I always kept in on the carpet feature, with the brush inside rolling. It was the only way it worked at all. And now I find the suction has been reduced to nearly nothing, and it started shutting off in the midst of being used, and turning back on after about 40 minutes of rest. Well, I can't give it that time. Never buying a Hoover vac again.
